A Winning Mentality: How United for Care’s Values Drive Better Participant Outcomes

Find out how focusing on the company's core values enables the whole United for Care team to reach its most important goal – delivering life-changing support to NDIS participants.

What does it take to have a glimmering medal hung around your neck on the Paralympic podium? Years of intense training, gritty determination, and unbreakable self-belief.

But beneath the physical capabilities lies a unique blend of psychological characteristics that truly set champions apart. These qualities are not exclusive to elite athletes, they are also the inspiration behind many high-performing organisations.

At United for Care, delivering life-changing support to NDIS participants is our equivalent of winning a gold medal.

Staying dedicated to our core values of Passion, Trust, Accountability, and Innovation enables the whole United for Care team to reach its most important goal – helping as many people living with disabilities as possible to live rewarding and independent lives.

Let’s look at each of these values and explore how they shape the company culture, allowing us to deliver winning outcomes for our participants.

Passion: A Desire to Improve Lives

Behind every successful athlete is the story of a slow-burning passion. The same is true for United for Care.

United for Care was born from a deep-rooted desire to improve the lives of people living with disabilities. Our founder and CEO, Khoder Daher, was profoundly impacted by a visit to a disability group home, where he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by NDIS participants and their families.

Khoder says this experience made him “determined to help as many NDIS participants as possible to live with dignity, independence, and purpose.”

Khoder envisioned a future where more people could access the NDIS funding they deserved, and where that funding was maximised to deliver life-changing outcomes.

This vision continues to drive United for Care forward, as we strive to offer the best possible support and build more inclusive communities that all our participants can thrive in.

Trust: Delivering On Our Promises

In the high-pressure world of elite sport, trust is paramount. Athletes must trust their coaches, their teammates, and most importantly, their own abilities.

Similarly, in the NDIS space, trust is the foundation of every successful partnership. Most importantly, participants and their families must trust that we will deliver on our promises.

Building and maintaining trust is an ongoing process, requiring clear communication, transparency and a genuine commitment to putting the needs of our participants first.

Marta Jakubczak, Head of Service Delivery, says “Every NDIS provider will claim to offer a participant-led service, but it’s easier said than done. We always listen very carefully to what our participants have to say about what we’re doing and then make improvements based on that feedback. Over time, you build an offering that really reflects what people want and need, and by extension you build trust in the service.”

Accountability: Owning Our Roles

Accountability is another essential ingredient for success in both sport and the NDIS.

Athletes are accountable to their coaching staff, their teammates, and themselves. They understand that their actions have consequences, and they are willing to take responsibility for their performance.

At United for Care, we hold ourselves accountable to our participants, their families, and our industry partners. Crucially, we’re all accountable to each other as a team.

Each team member clearly understands their role in supporting our participants, and we have clearly defined expectations for performance. This ensures everyone is aligned and there is no uncertainty about who is responsible for what.

Ruth Hamilton, Chief People Officer, claims the best way to ensure a healthy culture of accountability is to give people autonomy. “We want everybody to really own their roles. Giving our team the freedom to do their jobs sparks creativity and helps them find better solutions to problems. When people can think for themselves, they come up with new ideas and figure out how to fix things more effectively” Ruth says.

Ruth also claims that “accountability isn’t about perfection.” Just as an athlete bounces back from a loss or an underwhelming performance, at United for Care, we test out new ideas, learn from our mistakes, and strive for continuous improvement.

Innovation: Being a Force of NDIS Change

Finally, innovation is the driving force behind progress in both sport and the NDIS space. Athletes constantly seek new ways to improve their performance, whether it's through advanced training techniques or cutting-edge equipment.

In the NDIS, innovation is essential for finding new and better ways to support people living with disabilities.

At United for Care, we challenge the status quo, exploring new assistive technologies, and collaborating with industry partners to create innovative solutions that enhance everyday lives and improve the well-being of our participants.

For example, United for Care is helping pioneer a new touchless approach to fall prevention. We've partnered with Vayyar Care, a company using innovative radar technology. This technology can analyse a person's walking gait and predict falls or seizures before they happen.

United for Care’s Chief Strategy Officer, Karim Amin, says “The NDIS, with its focus on individual needs and capacity building, presents a unique opportunity to harness the tech revolution and redefine the nature of disability support.”

A Winning Mentality

At United for Care, our values of Passion, Trust, Accountability, and Innovation are more than just buzzwords. They’re the foundation of our unique approach to disability support. These values inspire us to go the extra mile, build strong relationships, and achieve life-changing outcomes.

From participants and family members to industry partners and support coordinators, anybody who collaborates with United for Care becomes part of the team. We’re not a team just because we work together. We’re a team because we respect, trust and support each other.

We measure our success through the success of our participants. Each time we help someone achieve greater independence, overcome a challenge, or reach a personal milestone, big or small, it’s a win that the whole team can celebrate.
