United for Care’s Redfern Open Day: A Fresh Take on Supported Independent Living

On the 30th of October, United for Care celebrated the much-anticipated launch of its latest Vertical Village in the heart of Redfern. This vibrant event brought together over 70 guests, including participants, support coordinators, NDIS professionals, and support workers, all keen to celebrate the start of something truly special in the heart of Sydney’s inner city. Open day guests were wowed, as the property unveiling revealed a breathtaking new standard in Supported Independent Living (SIL).

Setting the Stage with a Traditional Welcome

The festivities began with a powerful smoking ceremony, symbolising new beginnings on a site dedicated to bringing people together and strengthening community ties.

With bright, bold murals splashed across Redfern’s walls, the neighbourhood’s rich Aboriginal heritage is unmistakable. Fittingly, the smoking ceremony honoured this cultural connection and added depth to the occasion, reinforcing United for Care’s commitment to making Redfern’s Vertical Village a safe, welcoming and inclusive space where people feel connected to the property, and crucially, connected to each other.

A Vision for Connection and Independence

Kathryn Hutchins, Chief Operations Officer at United for Care, gave insight into the vision behind this special property. “This property was designed to bring people together. Seeing so many of you gathered here today means we’re off to the perfect start,” Kathryn shared. “We’re immensely proud of what we’ve created here. This property truly reflects United for Care’s Vertical Village model—providing essential disability support within a warm, welcoming community.”

Kathryn continued by highlighting United for Care’s mission to create more than just a place to live. “We believe that a real home is about feeling a sense of belonging,” she said. “At United for Care, we don’t just build properties; we build communities where participants find themselves surrounded by people who care. We want them to feel part of something that extends far beyond the walls of their home.”

Redfern: Where Community and Culture Meet City Living

Nestled in the centre of Redfern, the new property offers participants a mix of comfort, independence, and a buzzing social life. Redfern’s unique energy—where street art meets café culture—promises participants easy access to an urban lifestyle they’ll love.

With countless cafés, restaurants, and entertainment spots just around the corner, the new Vertical Village offers more than a place to live; it’s a gateway to all that Sydney has to offer.

The Vertical Village design reflects this lively vibe, blending modern, industrial style with functional, fully equipped self-contained studios. Guided tours of the apartments offered guests a glimpse into the perfect blend of comfort and modern style.

Each studio is thoughtfully designed with open-plan living areas, a fully equipped kitchen, and plenty of natural light, creating a warm, inviting space. Private balconies offer sanctuary and the perfect spot to enjoy the morning sun or unwind after a full day in the city.

You'll feel at home from the moment you step inside one of the studios, with a unique blend of comfort and modern industrial design.

Ribbon Cutting with Resident Mark: “A Great Place to Live”

Mark, one of the first residents of the new property, took centre stage to cut the ribbon, officially opening the Vertical Village. Mark spoke enthusiastically about his experience, sharing, “It’s a great place to live. I feel very safe, the support staff are wonderful, and I love the location—the whole of Sydney is on your doorstep. I’ve lived in quite a few different places over the years, but this is one of the best.”

Mark’s story reflects the experience United for Care aims to provide: a comfortable living space that participants are proud to call home and a supportive environment that empowers them to experience an exciting new lifestyle.

Building Connections on the Rooftop Terrace

The open day wrapped up with food and drinks served on the rooftop terrace, a gorgeous, sun-soaked space that features an open-air kitchen and lounge area. The terrace is designed as an intimate spot for residents to share meals, unwind, and enjoy each other’s company.

As guests mingled on the terrace, overlooking the lively Redfern streets, the energy was palpable—a snapshot of the lively community United for Care wants all its residents to fully immerse themselves in.

For residents that move into the Redfern Vertical Village, the rooftop’s stunning views of the city will be a constant reminder of just how lucky they are, living in a beautiful new property that really is right in the heart of it all.
